AWWIN PINK is a direct result of the founder of AWWIN (Sarahlyn U. Phillips) being faced with surviving the daily struggles of being a single working mother when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Women living in poverty have higher chances of being diagnosed with breast cancer in the late stages of the disease due to variables like low educational attainment, depression/stress, insufficient health care, lack of knowledge and, a cascade of negative life experiences.

AWWINPINK is a program to educate and equip low-to-moderate income single working women and is made up of the following components:

• Breast cancer awareness information (Preventative and Early Detection Education)
• Healthcare access referrals
• Financial stipends for lodging, utilities, co-pays, etc for women taking chemotherapy and/or radiation
